About this site

I created this site since I had written a history of our involvement with Python, but there didn't seem like there was a suitable home for it. I did not want to publish it in a journal for a variety of reasons so I created this site. If nothing else, it will be a place where I put information that might be of some interest to people working in this field (loosely defined). If that was the only item on the site, I would not be doing this, but I figured there were other topics that I could add so it wasn't a completely crazy idea.

I also plan to have this site host historical documents regarding software developments involving STScI and perhaps other related STScI history.

Since I'm not aware of any concerted effort for gathering this sort of history in one place for astronomy, that being more personal recollections of how things actually happened, I would be thrilled if others would like to add similar items. Hence a fairly generic (and presumptuous) name for the domain. Perhaps this site could become a nucleus for similar histories. And if not, that's fine too. If some existing or future site becomes an obvious home for the content, I'll move it there.

This site won't support direct comments since I do not wish to take on the job of moderating, but you may email me comments that you want added, and if I think they are suitable and relevant I will add them. Questions are welcome as well, which I will try to answer, and of interest to others, add to the site content (any comments or questions will be posted anonymously unless otherwise directed).

The content on this site is not intended to represent any official representations of STScI.

Any content I post will be dated so that content versions can be clearly identified (I'm not sure if or how I will make previous versions available, perhaps on github).
